SHAPE American Elementary School Introduces SHAPE Knight Buddy Bench to Promote Kindness
Students at SHAPE American Elementary School are embracing a new symbol of kindness and connection thanks to the Student Leadership Team, Dr. Sarah Johnes, Ms. Ashley Gregal and BSA Scout Troop 325G member Madeline Hansen. Together, they brought to life the SHAPE Knight Buddy Bench, a project designed to help students feel seen, supported and included throughout the school day.
Ms. Collette Tate named Principal of Shape Elementary School
Dr. Jason Ter Horst, superintendent for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Europe West District, announced the selection of Ms. Collette Tate as the new principal of SHAPE Elementary School.

Music in Our Schools Month
DoDEA joins the National Association for Music Education and schools across the nation in celebrating Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) in March. The purpose of recognizing MIOSM in DoDEA is to highlight and advocate for music programs in our schools.
National Reading Month
DoDEA joins the National Education Association and schools across the nation in celebrating Read Across America on March 2nd and all year long to help motivate kids to read, bring the joys of reading to students of all ages, and make all children feel valued and welcome.

Nominations for the Educator of Promise Award will be accepted February 23 to March 20, 2026.
The Department Announces New Director of DoWEA
The Department is pleased to announce that Mr. Paul Craft will succeed Dr. Beth Schiavino-Narvaez as the Director of the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA), effective March 9, 2026.

The College Board announced that 39 Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) high schools have been named to the Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll.
DoDEA Career and Technical Education Month
DoDEA celebrates CTE Month every February as a reminder to students that Career and Technical Education programs are available to all those who want to pursue a college education; enlist in the military; or enter directly into the workforce.
