SHAPE American Elementary Teachers “Escape the Ordinary” with CSI Day
On November 3rd, teachers at SHAPE American Elementary School participated in an engaging CSI Day aligned with School Action Plan goals. The CSI team designed an exciting Amazing Race–Escape Room mashup, challenging teachers to complete four interactive tasks within one hour.
Activities included unscrambling formative assessment quotes, sorting success criteria, learning objectives, and standards, answering questions about the school’s literacy and math goals, and watching videos of SHAPE teachers modeling formative assessment practices. The event sparked collaboration, rich discussion, and a healthy dose of friendly competition!
Following the challenge, teachers joined choice-based professional learning sessions led by teacher leaders across the school. Session topics ranged from Utilizing Gemini and Exploring Health Databases to Accommodations, Interventions, and Strategies, Using Mentor Texts as Writing Exemplars, and Guided Reading for Formative Assessment.
Throughout the day, all teachers participated in the first of a three-part session on Standards and Success Criteria Alignment, which was planned and created by one of our awesome teachers. This initiative promotes consistency and clarity across grade levels.
The day concluded with staff feedback that reflected the event’s success. Teachers shared that “it was fun, engaging, and informational,” and that it was “an excellent use of my time learning from my peers.” Others appreciated “the variety of presentations and the pace of the day.”
We look forward to continuing this learning at our next CSI Day in March!
