Weekly Wrap-Up

It’s been another exciting week full of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit!

Our students brought their imaginations to life through Bare Books, proudly becoming the authors and illustrators of their own stories. The week also saw the return of the much-loved Superhero Run—a fun and energetic event that brings our community together. A big thank you to Ms. Whetzel, SHAPE Middle School teacher, whose leadership makes these runs possible throughout the year. We’re also grateful for the continued support of our PTSO and Andrews Federal Credit Union as event sponsors.

Our 4th graders impressed at the Science Fair, and took their learning a step further by partnering with the AP Literature class at the high school to create board games inspired by books—a fantastic example of cross-grade collaboration and creativity.

This week, our Pre-K students visited Kindergarten classrooms as part of their transition activities. They had a wonderful time exploring the space, meeting new teachers, and getting a glimpse of what next year will look like. It was a proud moment watching their excitement and growing confidence.

Meanwhile, kindergarten is still going strong with the ABC Countdown! Monday will bring us to the letter T, and we’re looking forward to even more fun and learning.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping make SHAPE a dynamic and joyful place to learn and grow.

Bare Books

Bare Books gave students the opportunity to bring their own stories to life. They became both authors and illustrators of their original books. After creating their stories, students shared them with peers who also crafted their own books. This was a collaborative effort led by the student leadership team, guided by Dr. Johnes and Ms. Gregal, and included partnerships with other schools, such as the Norwegian School on SHAPE.

PreK Visits Kindergarten

Our Pre-K students took an exciting step this week as they visited the Kindergarten classrooms! These visits help our youngest learners get a feel for what to expect next year, making the transition a little easier and a lot more fun. We’re so proud of their curiosity and confidence as they explore what’s ahead!

Kindness Calendar

A big thank you to Ms. Blakely for finding and sharing this each month’s Kindness Calendar with our staff! The calendar is filled with daily acts of kindness to inspire students and staff to spread positivity throughout the school and beyond. It’s a simple yet powerful way to foster a culture of caring and connection within our SHAPE ES community.

Accelerated Withdrawal

The Principal may authorize an accelerated withdrawal of a student who must withdraw from school 20 or less instructional days prior to the end of a semester, in accordance with Section 3.1.d, of DoDEA Administrative Instruction 1367.01, “High School Graduation Requirements and Policy,” [TBD]. Accelerated withdrawal will only be considered if the parent/sponsor presents PCS orders. The parent or sponsor must present verification of the date required for the student to depart from the school (e.g., PCS orders). All of the conditions of an accelerated study program outlined by the student’s teachers must be met prior to withdrawal in order for grades to be assigned and credit to be granted. Students who withdraw prior to the 20-day limitation of the accelerated withdrawal policy will receive “withdrawal” grades rather than final grades. In this case, the sponsor/parent should notify the school two weeks prior to the date of withdrawal.

We’re excited to share that DoDEA has won the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award – Website Award of Merit for our School Newsletters Project! This NSPRA award honors outstanding school communication efforts that help connect schools with their communities. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our amazing school webmasters. Thank you for keeping families connected with your hard work and heart!
